Local agencies use government funds to run the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (HEAP or LIHEAP), which helps low income households pay for heating and/or cooling costs. This program may be called by a different name in your area.

Because this program is run by local agencies, rules and benefits vary depending on where you live. One of the benefits is help with home weatherization. Funds can be used to help make your home more energy efficient, saving you money on your heating and cooling bills. To learn about benefits in your area, contact your local agency.

If you are part of a low-income household and have high heating or cooling bills, you may be eligible for LIHEAP. You automatically qualify for assistance if you receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP). LIHEAP rules and requirements are decided by the local agency that is in charge of the program and they vary by location. To find out if you might be eligible for help, contact your local agency.

am looking for help to keep from drowning. My husband and I are doing what we can to raise 4 boys and to care for my husband's mother. I lost my job shortly after christmas and despite constant efforts I am still without a new job. My husband has degenerative back problems and His mother is in the early stages of dimentia. The boys try to help and are willing to work but as the primary wage earner I am just at a loss. we currently receive food assistance as well as medicaid. Our heating and electric bill is through the roof in this house and despite efforts i feel stuck between a rock and a hard place.. I have a lot of experience in the office but just can't seem to get my foot in the door. the home we are in needs a lot of work. there is little to no insulation on the outer walls and a mold issue has presented itself leaving me even more frustrated and worried for the care of my family. Currently i have an electric bill in shut off status and a landlord wanting rent. I did seek help from my worker and was awarded a portion leaving me with over 60% of the bill for either "myself or my sources to cover". I can pay only one and that as it is will leave us with no funds for other basic necessities. Can anyone guide me to help. or even better....A job. So i can support my family myself?

My name is Robin, im 22 years old ex foster child with no family contact. I am in desperate need of help right now with rent. After being laid off of my job a month ago I have been unable to find a job in my area, since I walk every where I need to go because I have no vehicle. My Boyfriend of two year just beat me the day before new years and took everything i had. my clothes were all shreaded to pieces my apt he knocked holes in the walls took my phone and left my face un presentable to find a job. I don't know what to do I have called the vitims advocate number the police gave me from my report but still no returned phone call but its kinda hard not having my own phone. Please help me I am so afraid to be homeless I know i deserve a better life. Please help me, i would be so greatful.

I AM A single mother of three trying to find low income housing , that's all i want. my rent is to expensive and every month i struggle to pay it .
